The former steam pumping station 'De Cruquius', from 1849, is an industrial monument of world proportions. From 1849 till 1852 the Cruquius, together with its sister steam pumping stations "Leeghwater" and "Lijnden", drained the Haarlemmermeer and kept it drained thereafter.
